Do you know an outstanding business or individual making a significant impact through their generosity and commitment to the community? We invite you to submit nominations for the Beacon of Light Recognition Celebration, an opportunity to celebrate those who go above and beyond.

About the Beacon of Light Awards
The Calvert County Chamber of Commerce recognizes individuals, businesses, and organizations whose philanthropic efforts have made a positive difference in the Southern Maryland region. This prestigious recognition highlights community leaders who strive to improve the quality of life for all residents through their service, support, and dedication.

Award Categories

1. Legacy Award
This award honors a business or individual whose philanthropic efforts span 10 or more years. Their contributions demonstrate a deep commitment to improving the community through financial support and leadership. The Legacy Award is only given when a nominee exemplifies exceptional generosity and civic responsibility.

2. Outstanding Business
This award recognizes a business that has engaged its employees in philanthropic activities and made significant contributions through financial support, volunteer involvement, and community leadership. The award will be divided into three categories based on business size:

• Large (200+ employees)
• Mid-size (50-199 employees)
• Small (1-49 employees)

3. Outstanding Non-Profit
Recognizes a non-profit organization that has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the community through direct involvement, financial support, and leadership. The organization must be a registered non-profit.

How to Submit a Nomination

To nominate an individual, business, or non-profit for a Beacon of Light award:

1. Complete the Nomination Form:
   Fill out the online nomination form, including your nominee’s information, the category of nomination, and a brief narrative (up to 450 words) outlining why your nominee deserves recognition.
2. Include Supporting Documents (Optional):
   You may attach letters of support or additional documents to strengthen your nomination.
3. Submit Your Nomination by 12:00 PM on November 20, 2026

  Yes, self-nominations are accepted.
• Who is eligible for the Legacy Award?
  Any individual or business with a history of 10 or more years of exceptional community involvement is eligible for this award.
• How are nominations evaluated?
  A review committee will evaluate all nominations and select winners based on the criteria for each category.
